FOREST POOKY. Un nom qui vous est peut-être familier pour de bonnes raisons.
Ce singer songwriter franco-américain né aux USA, a grandi en Ardèche.
Il a donné plus de 1100 concerts sur 5 continents, joué dans une dizaine de formations et participé à l’enregistrement de plus d’une vingtaine de disques. Un hyperactif donc.
Il a partagé l’affiche en tournée avec entre autres : Frank Turner (UK), Evan Dando (The Lemonheads, USA), Peter ‘Blackie’ Black (The Hard-Ons, AUS), Kepi Ghoulie (Groovie Ghoulies, USA)…
VIOLETS ARE RED, ROSES ARE BLUE AND DICHOTOMY, est le second album de FOREST POOKY, une bonne dizaine d’années après le premier, sans compter quelques nombreux pas de côté, disque de reprise, EP et autre split single. On y découvre l’évidence de ses influences pop avec une palette de titres qui référencent mélodiquement les Beach Boys ou les Beatles, tout en portant l’énergie rythmique d’un Rancid ou d’un Hot Water Music.
On reconnaît dans les textes son trait tantôt satirique tantôt naïf, qui laisse parfois transpirer avec humour la douce rage de l’auteur compositeur.
Le titre If I Get Sick of It par exemple, prend le contre-pied de l’image romantique des artistes qui clament ‘’On the road until the end !’’ – Sur la route jusqu’à la fin – en racontant que le jour où il en aura assez, lui, s’arrêtera. Un premier single illustré par un clip à fort pouvoir de vocations et servi, comme ceux qui suivent et l’album lui-même, par les beaux visuels signés Roxane Rastrelli.
Ou encore Marvellous qui raconte avec humour qu’il s’est bien maladroitement débrouillé lors de la première rencontre avec sa douce sur l’Île de la Réunion.
Sans oublier Jojo, dans lequel il règle gentiment ses comptes avec les trolls des réseaux sociaux.
FOREST POOKY a pris son temps pour faire de VIOLETS ARE RED, ROSES ARE BLUE AND DICHOTOMY un disque à son image, touchant, drôle, émouvant parfois, énergique souvent, libérateur pourquoi pas, réjouissant toujours. Un peu d’énergie adolescente dans un ‘‘disque de la maturité’’ ?

Forest Pooky. A name that may sound familiar and for good reasons.
This Franco-American songwriter was born in the USA but grew up in Ardèche, France.

VIOLETS ARE RED, ROSES ARE BLUE AND DICHOTOMY is FOREST POOKY’s second studio solo album. It comes ten years after Every Key Hole Has An Eye To Be Seen Through, many splits, EP’s and an extraordinary cover record. This new album obviously reveals his pop influences with melodies referencing the Beach Boys or the Beatles, while also sharing the rhythm and energy of bands like Rancid or Hot Water Music.
His lyrics can be satirical and naïve ate the same time, transpiring with humor the sweet rage of the author.
In the song If I Get Sick Of It for example, Forest takes on the romantic image of artists declaring “I’ll hit the road ‘til the end!”, saying that at some point, if he gets sick of it, he’ll stop. A first single which is illustrated, as are following singles, with a video clip by David Basso and an amazing and beautiful artwork by Roxane Rastrelli.
Another song titled Marvellous tells humorously how Forest got in a tricky and painful situation, being awkward, when meeting his Sweetheart on the Reunion Island.
And of course, the song Jojo, in which Forest gently sets things straight with internet trolls.
Forest took his time to make VIOLETS ARE RED, ROSES ARE BLUE AND DICHOTOMY, a record in his image, touching, funny, moving sometimes, often energetic, freeing why not, rejoicing always.
Sounds like youthful energy in a very mature album. We did say Dichotomy!
